Marysue Moses is a dementia educator, consultant and former memory care coordinator who has spent years helping caregivers and professionals create more meaningful, engaging experiences for people living with dementia.
Long before she entered the field of dementia care, Marysue was a theater artist. A self-described “theatre kid” who studied in London, worked with the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, and co-founded Theatre at Work, she developed a deep appreciation for storytelling, presence and human connection—skills that would later shape her approach to dementia care in unexpected ways.
Her path into that work began with her mother’s dementia diagnosis. As she tried to better understand what her mother was experiencing, she was struck by the lack of meaningful engagement in many memory care settings. Drawing on her theatrical background, she created Tales from a Trunk, an interactive storytelling program that uses props and sensory experiences to spark connection and invite participation. What began as a way to serve her own family quickly grew into a broader calling.
Marysue went on to work in assisted living communities as both an activities coordinator and memory care coordinator while earning her master’s degree in gerontology. She later served as the dementia program coordinator for Ebenezer Management Services, where she helped develop training and best practices across multiple sites. Today, she continues her work as a dementia educator, sharing practical, creative approaches with caregivers, families and professionals across the country. Family has remained at the heart of Marysue’s work and perspective. She was married to actor Phil Kilbourne, whose curiosity and encouragement supported her journey, and she is the proud mother of a creative and enterprising daughter. The people she has loved—both at home and in her care communities—continue to shape the way she teaches, writes and connects with others.
