We have recently been made aware that some authors have received unsolicited emails from someone claiming to represent Emerald Lake Books.
These messages were not sent by Emerald Lake Books, our team members, or anyone acting on our behalf.
In at least one instance, the email claimed to come from one of our editors and referenced the recipient’s work in a personalized way. However, the email was sent from an address that is not associated with Emerald Lake Books.
This appears to be part of a growing pattern of AI-assisted outreach, where someone uses publicly available information about an author, book or business to generate a message that sounds personal and informed. These messages can feel legitimate because they may reference your work, your genre, your website or other real details. But that does not mean the sender has any actual relationship with the person or company they claim to represent.
Please know that Emerald Lake Books does not use third-party AI outreach campaigns to solicit authors, and our team members do not contact authors from unfamiliar or unofficial email addresses.
If you receive a message that appears to be from Emerald Lake Books and you are unsure whether it is legitimate, please do not reply to the email or click any links. Instead, contact us through our website so we can verify it for you.
Once we confirm the message is not from us, we also encourage you to mark it as phishing or spam in your email system.
We take the trust of our authors, prospective clients and mailing list subscribers seriously, and we appreciate those who have brought this matter to our attention.
